Is there a way to repair rust hole in bath tub?

tub repair

Apparently the enamel got chipped years ago, and a rust spot formed. Eventually it rusted through, I didn’t notice it until water leaked out. I have access to to underside of the tub through a panel in the adjacent room if need be. I’d really, really prefer to not have to rip the whole tub out if possible.

Is there some way to repair this? I’ve read about metallic putties that can withstand engine combustion in cars, there MUST be something I could use to simply fill a hole in a bath tub.

Could I grind out the hole to get rid of the rust, tape the bottom, and fill it with something, then sand/feather it out?

Is there a paint that will work on a tub?
